Day 12: MEET THE MIDGE

WHERE ARE YOU?
Klamath Falls, OR

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
Packed, reorganized, and hit the road (Jack, and don’t you come back no mo no more no more no more)

Set up camp, ate + roasted s’mores and figs. Sam + Dana concocted a winning combination and we headed to bed. We leave again for another 5 hour drive to get to San Francisco tomorrow.

HOW YAH FEELIN?
Our first take off from Seattle into Portland was kind of a softer departure because we had the comfort of Sam’s home + family in White Salmon, but at the same time it doesn’t feel “real” that we’re hitting + going to be on the road for the next two months. Crazy. Maybe it’ll hit me when we’re at the mercy of Mother Nature + fending for ourselves in the desert through AZ into TX :^)

I wish I soaked in more of our last moments in Portland when we were there last night, but like I had written in yesterday’s journal, overall, I am just so grateful, humbled, and appreciative of our amazing time in the city, owed almost completely to the three incredible + inspiring human beings we got to speak and learn from. Thank you, Kate, Adam, and Judy for your time and your wise words. Thank you, Portland—we’ll be back soon.

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
Woke up on the deck for the very last time, bittersweet.

Did some work and packed our things.

My sweet sweet fam met up with us in White Salmon and brought us a car (thank you fam <3).

Packed her up & hit the road jack.

5 hours went by real real fast and we got situated in a cozy little campsite in Klamath Falls.

ps. mom's food is always the best food & I got to have some today. Happy belly :)

HOW YAH FEELIN?
As much as I love White Salmon and Portland, I'm happy to be leaving and excited for what's to come. The next month and a half is going to fly by so fast.

WHERE ARE YOU?
Klammath Lake, Oregon (almost to the border!)

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
Woke up to Dana + Sahm working away above me. I started this trip worried about expectations for work flow, but I think this morning was proof I'm more comfortable with these ladies and having more confidence in my own work flow. I didn't panic about letting the team down because I wasn't working every second they were, but I laid there and read for a while and went through what I need to start the day.

We finished our journals from yesterday and got to work organizing and packing up. Dana's fam showed up around 2pm (thank you guys for everything!) to drop off the rig for the San Francisco leg of our journey. We got to hang out with them for a while which was nice. It was cool to have them at my home home and meet my dad. Still blows my mind they were already frequenters of White Salmon...

It took a couple tries for us to leave with Sahm forgetting her backpack and needing a dollar for bridge toll but then WE WERE OFF. This just feels like a road trip. The interview part is old news. Everything's set up already and with the open road, solid playlist and podcasts (thanks Dana + everyone who gave recommendations), popcorn and two of my best friends, it finally feels like we're getting a little taste of summer.

NOW we're camped at a KOA that actually seems to be IN town..? I've eaten 5 amores and set up the tent twice (the first time was backwards even though Dana swore it wasn't).

Honestly I'm kind of excited to be camping the whole way. The tent will be comfier than Joey anyhoo.

HOW YAH FEELIN?
Lovin' the road. Find myself wishing we had time to stop already though. Especially driving over Mt. Hood and through central Oregon, I kind of want to just stop and hangout in the woods somewhere for a while. We'll have that week of just trippin' in a minute. Can't wait to see Joshua Tree. <3
