Day 18: BIG ‘OL ROCKS

Joshua Tree, CA

WHERE ARE YA?
JOSHUA TREE

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
Packed, reorganized, and transferred all our stuff and said our (final) goodbyes to Northern California.

Once again our sights were set on getting to Joshua Tree.

We miraculously made it to our campsite before the sun had set (a first on our road trip) and got to run around for a minute, finding faces in the rocks.

Set up tent, Dana made a tasty salad, and saw some shootin’ stars.

HOW YAH FEELIN?
After sitting in the car for such a long time, it was so, so nice to stretch my legs for a bit and tromp around, admire some cacti + greenery, and gush over jack rabbits. More than anything I was happy to be outside, exploring Joshua Tree with Sam + Dana. Our campsite had zero service and it was nice to not be wired in/distracted and just be very presently in the company of the sweetest + most genuine people.

WHERE ARE YOU?
JOSHUA TREEEEEE

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
Drove.

Then spent almost two hours at a grocery store, totally worth it.

Sam made some guac and we ate it on the side of the road.

Drove more.

And then.....drumroll please....JOSHUA TREE

What a beautiful place <3

We got there at the pinkest hour and ran around as the sun was setting. Magical.

Once it got dark, the stars came out to play and man what a view.

Wishing we had more time to spend here, but I will definitely be back.

HOW YAH FEELIN?
Like a tiny speck of dust in this grand universe.

- Dana

WHERE ARE YOU?
JOSHUA TREEE, FINALEEE

WHAT'D YOU DO TODAY?
AND WE’RE OFF (round 2)

Swapped from the Mazda to the Honda and headed south again.

It was a full day of driving stopping somewhere at around 12:30 to somehow lose 2 hours ish in a Mexican market and making guac in/on the car because it was just too hot in this shadeless place.

Dana and I swapped off and I got some much needed nap time.

WE FINALLY MADE IT TO JOSHUA TREE.

AND IT’S GORGEOUS.

AND I CAN’T HANDLE IT.

We got to camp in Jumbo Rocks and it was the best time finding a camp spot under HUGE crazy rock formations. Then it was the best time running from the campground to classic skull rock and even better time climbing up the rock, spotting my first tarantula, and running through the jumbo rocks as the sun set.

Dana made us the most amazing salad and we went to sleep under the craziest stars I’ve ever seen.

HOW YAH FEELIN?
Rejuvenated. I know it'll be short lived though. Definitely not enough time for running around these rocks, with this air and these night skies.
